At Macarthur Paediatric Dentistry, we understand that some dental concerns require more than routine care. Although we do aim to save teeth where possible, we also understand that some dental issues may require extractions or minor oral surgery to ensure the health of your child.
These are often short-duration minor surgical procedures carried out under local anaesthetic, and include:
• Baby Tooth Extractions When a tooth is severely damaged, decayed, or impacted, extraction may be necessary to preserve oral health and prevent further complications.
• Frenectomies This is the removal of the tissue fold that attaches the tongue or lips to the jaw bone. A frenectomy can improve oral function and prevent speech, feeding and tooth alignment issues.
• Treatment of Infections or Abscesses: Dental and gum abscesses are painful infections that may require drainage to alleviate discomfort and prevent the spread of infection.
Our Approach to Extractions & Minor Oral Surgery
We understand that the thought of oral surgery can be daunting for both children and parents. That’s why we’ll alway prioritise your child’s comfort and well-being throughout the entire process, and utilise advanced techniques to minimise anxiety, discomfort and promote a speedy recovery.
Although we do usually complete these procedures in the chair under local anaesthetic, there is an option for your child to have treatment under sedation (happy gas) or general anaesthetic (sleep dentistry).
