Your Child’s First Dental Visit
Your child’s first visit to our specialist children’s dentist should happen by their first birthday, or no longer than six months after they get their first teeth. During your child’s first dental visit, we will introduce your child in a friendly way to their new paediatric dentist. This will begin new habits. And will allow them to feel comfortable with a dentist checking their teeth and gums, starting a lifelong routine.
Your child’s first visit will usually be brief and involve very little treatment. This encounter will act as a relationship building session for your child and their new dentist. During the visit, your child’s new dentist will check your child’s teeth for decay, look for any signs of gum, jaw or oral issues, and examine your child’s bite. If required, our dentist will clean any teeth that need it and evaluate any need for fluoride treatment. The dentist will also educate the parents about dental health care for their children and discuss any oral developmental issues.
The importance of building confidence between your child and dentist means your dental check-ups should be scheduled at least every six months. It’s also essential for the monitoring of your child’s dental development and allows for treatments if any problems arise.
