Covering all areas around Camden, including Campbelltown, Narellan, Westmead, and Menangle; we are Sydney’s specialist children’s dentist of choice.

Your Child’s First Dental Visit

Your child’s first visit to our specialist children’s dentist should happen by their first birthday, or no longer than six months after they get their first teeth. During your child’s first dental visit, we will introduce your child in a friendly way to their new paediatric dentist. This will begin new habits. And will allow them to feel comfortable with a dentist checking their teeth and gums, starting a lifelong routine.

Your child’s first visit will usually be brief and involve very little treatment. This encounter will act as a relationship building session for your child and their new dentist. During the visit, your child’s new dentist will check your child’s teeth for decay, look for any signs of gum, jaw or oral issues, and examine your child’s bite. If required, our dentist will clean any teeth that need it and evaluate any need for fluoride treatment. The dentist will also educate the parents about dental health care for their children and discuss any oral developmental issues.

The importance of building confidence between your child and dentist means your dental check-ups should be scheduled at least every six months. It’s also essential for the monitoring of your child’s dental development and allows for treatments if any problems arise.

Issues your specialist children’s dentist may speak to you about are:

  • Cavity prevention
  • Oral hygiene habits and practices
  • Fluoride needs
  • Habits that may affect teeth like tongue or thumb sucking & tongue thrusting
  • Teething
  • Developmental milestones
  • Nutrition
  • Dental check-up schedule

What To Expect

During your child’s first visit, our children’s dentist will help to educate you, as parents, on proper tooth and gum care for your child, based on their age and tooth development. We will also run you through a demonstration of brushing techniques so that you can assist your child in the best way possible with oral care. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and discuss how often your child should return to visit us. Setting a pattern for dental appointments will help to create a proper oral care routine at an early age, creating lifelong habits.

Caring For Your Children’s Teeth

Healthy teeth are vital to your child’s complete health. They assist your child when eating and talking, and proper care is critical. Excellent oral care assists in setting good dental habits as your children grow. Poor oral care often leads to disease, infection, or other teeth or gum issues.

Help make dental hygiene fun with these tips.

  • Let children help choose their own colour toothbrush
  • Let children help choose their favourite flavour of toothpaste
  • Use a timer to make sure they brush their teeth for 2 minutes
  • Reward children for proper oral care
  • Plan a fun activity following every visit to the dentist
